The wildfires often begin unnoticed

Wildfire in Eagle Creek west

American states are already experiencing the forest fires at scale, like every year. The wild fires are caused by several reason including camping and deliberate fires caused to agricultural land. The conspiracy that stakeholders of development burn the forest land to extend the infrastructure for their upcoming projects. It could be true, the population explosion has impacted the resources and the idea of sustainable development is looming but when the individual adoption is put forth, people step back. Sustainable development is not a personal choice, it’s need of the times. Each year the burden on land, resource consumption of major metro cities increases substantially and the technological advancement can improve production, efficiency, and demand but the supply remains the same. Meanwhile the stakeholders of the supply chain of essentials look at depleting resources as an opportunity to increase prices. In times like these, when the resources shall be accessible to everyone if not free but with a same price for all. The socialist approach for resource sharing along with sustainable development is necessary in the current times. The depletion of resources, the anarchist pre-development of events, population explosion, income disparity are the wildfires.

Another perspective, the actual forest fires are been controlled in India with MODIS and FAST systems which alerts real time with fire outbreaks. But the coal block allocation in Assam region, exemptions under new EIA 2020 draft, the opencast mining in Dehing Patkai, Assam, the deforestation for highway projects are the wildfires with no alert system. When the concerns in current times are driven by state run news channels broadcasting same news for judgement of a movie star, who will take the initiative for the elephants, the tribes, the villagers, the future generations. The alarming situation is such that nobody cares for the stats unless a forest fire, floods, massive landslides, and air quality drop takes place on a scale to be used for banner mounted behind the reporters.

Everyone can criticize but when it comes to the action, we let it pass like seasons. With each season the global warming, climate change, population, resource consumption, disaster stats are more concerning than ever. We seldom worry of the calamity unless it affects us. We never cared for the lack of Health gears for the Doctors before outbreak of Coronavirus, Mumbai people don’t blame BMC unless their homes are flooded ( that’s every season); we have never cared for sanitation enough but now the perception is such, we remind others to sanitize their hands now and then. Some wildfires are at the door step but we barely care to notice unless they knock the door.
